Mind the Gap

Another intermission - sorry about that! I was back in the UK. A week of much fun and games, along with much expensive train travel. At one point we were not allowed to board a train from Gatwick because someone had vomited the entire length of the train, from first class to the other end. Shame I didn't get to snap THAT as Photo of the Day, eh?

I guess it happens to most of us, but the Photo is proving a bind at the moment. I suspect that by the end of the year I will have posted 365 images, but it's tough sometimes to come up with something interesting each day, especially when it's been rainin. Maybe I am not a visual person? Having said that, I don't think a Haiku of the Day would be any better... Also I don't want to include people pix, as it seems a bit cheeky to co-opt their faces, when I HATE having my own picture taken.

The other factor is that I am racing to the end of the Novel That Does Not Want to End. Ever. Almost at 100,000 words now, but still with what seems like half a book's worth of plot to finish. So blogging and writing about photos doesn't seem a priority.

Therefore, I will post some random pictures without much explanation and do my best to restore normal service when my creative energies are fully restored. So the pix are: first ever proper home-made tortilla espanol (courtesy of video by El Cocinero Fiel); fabulously delicious potential cupcakes for friend's wedding (not hand-made, but from Angel Food in Brighton); very romantic pudding at the Romantic Novelists' Association Awards lunch; Brighton beach; and Villa Moxo, Barcelona.

So, Barcelona's Big Snow disappeared in a single day, more or less, and we were back to spring colours.

Boyf and I then ventured out for a couple of days to Girona, which is very different in atmosphere - much quieter, apart from all the building work going on. The riverside had a very Florentine feel, I thought.

Though the place where we had lunch was much more Breton... delicious crepes, and the toilets (which I was too dignified to photograph) were built into an old school bus!

Then we were rather distracted by the dogs - you can just about see a couple of real yappers (one in the owner's arms) giving it what for.

And then this guy seemed to show such yearning as the girl in the tight jeans walked past...

Photos of the Day 63-65

It's free day in Barcelona's museums today, so we popped into the Museum of the History of Catalunya to try to get a grip of the region's past. But I was distracted, as usual, by bits and bobs: a bar tableau that isn't so different from some of the ones you can find down alleyways (but that I am a bit too wimpy to go into as a non-local); a table footy game; and a rather strange tableau of giant textile worker dolls in the lobby...

Yesterday we discovered how the city's Dalek-like recycling bins are emptied (via a rather neat trap-door system).

And since Friday I have been increasingly boggled by quite how off target I am with the timings of The Secret Shopper Affair (which is what we're calling the third in the series). So I have been falling back on the old multi-coloured Post-It Notes on a Table technique (the blur is my attempt to preserve the mystery of my new plot, rather than an inability to keep the camera still). I can't decide if this technique will save the day, or is the last resort of a desperate author. Watch this space...

Earlier this week, I looked out of the window and saw that the market tower was glowing - it did take me a few seconds to work out it was the sunset. I love the light here.
