Word count:30,225

Apologies for the lack of title - Blogger's not playing this morning. Just popping in briefly, in case anyone's still coming here, to say hello and everything's fine in Kate World, but I am trying very hard to cure myself of 'net addiction so my web purdah will be carrying on for a little while. Had a lovely weekend at Winchester Writers' Conference, lots of other exciting things are happening and I promise I will be back to blog again soon.

In the meantime, The Novel Racers are having fun in their new home - and you may also like to peruse the new, exciting Bookarazzi site, going live any moment now. It will be THE place to be seen if you're into books and blogging. You heard it here first.

Right. Onto copy edits.

Glad to see you are still alive and well in blogland, you started something very useful with the Novel Race and it seems to be going well at its new home. Hope all your work is moving forward.

Ooh, Bookarazzi looks rather good - some familiar faces there :)

Sounds as if you have lots of funky stuff going on...

I hit the problem with the title for a couple of days, too. Had to click very precisely just to the left of the title bar to be able to type one. Seems ok today though.

Just read the article in Writing Magazine which uses Brown Owl's Guide To Life to illustrate its points. Excellent article and should also help flog a few more of your books! My mum was a Brown Owl, and I was rent-a-helper - she made me go on several hundred Pack Holidays in my teens. So now I think your book's going to have to leapfrog the others in my to-be-read pile.

Glad all is well, Kate. (Womagwriter: Brown Owl's Guide To Life is a VERY enjoyable read.)

Hi there, I'm Jenni and I love reading your blog. I am currently working on my second book (first is unpublished) and I would be very interested in joining your novel race - if I'm allowed :)
I'm only at 4,000 words out of 100,000 but progress is steady. I have a slightly lower word count target than most of you - 5,000 per week but I find that works best for me (I have 2 kids under 5 and one due in Oct).
If you permit me to join your amazing novel race you can contact me by emailing jenni1607AThotmailDOTcoDOTuk or visiting my blog at
Good luck to you all,
Jenni x

Hi Kate,
What a great idea the novel racer is!
I've just completed my teen novel and just shipped it off in full to an agent (fingers crossed she likes it.)
I'm taking a short break and when I'm ready to start my next one, I may join the race!
I'll be keeping an eye on everyone's blogs though!
Sally xx
